Let’s entertain you….

The app is designed for very busy professionals who hardly have time to spend with their loved ones or see a movie in a theatre. It helps you buy movie tickets from a theatre with Ease. What makes this solution unique is the fact that it was carefully designed with empathy as our benchmark from start to finish, putting into consideration your location as well as your proximity to your nearest theatre while keeping you informed on your genre of movie.

Project Breakdown

Busy professionals hardly have time to spend with their families and friends. We live in an age where parents hardly have time to take their kids out due to very busy schedules at work.

It provides services such as Credit card recall, this makes payment easy for users when trying to buy tickets providing security measures to safeguard your payment details.

Project Goal

Reduce the time it takes to book or buy a movie ticket.

It helps you keep track of your genre of movies.

Research Summary

From my research, I discovered that many busy parents hardly find time to take their kids and families out for movies night at the theatre due to their very busy schedules.  This insight was unveiled from my primary and secondary research. From my assumption, It’s obvious that a platform that would be easy to book tickets and act as a reminder would go a long way in helping such professionals cultivate the habit of taking their families out for movies.

My assumptions changed during my research due to the fact that many considered the distance between their homes and the theatre as well as vital information about the movie provided before they proceed to book a ticket.

HMW….

How might we help very busy professionals and parents feel more comfortable with booking movies on a theatre app with less complication and within a short amount of time?

Persona

From the research, I discovered some issues, and pain points as I synthesized our researched data. Many had problems with finding the easiest way to book a movie as well as getting the necessary information on a movie before making a final booking. After analyzing my data I came up with a persona that embodied my customers and stakeholders

Journey Map

I was able to identify the pain points experienced through the movie booking process and carefully observed the stress and feelings of my users as they tried to engage in other platforms. With this, I came up with a journey map that helped me pinpoint the areas that needed attention while carrying out the booking process.

Paper Wireframes / Sketches

Through a number of iterations and user-centred designs in mind, I made sketches for my wireframes and identified features that would help alleviate user pain points.

I made multiple sketches for every wireframe that would be used in our digital application and extracted key features from every sketch and assembled together to form a page that could solve my user’s pain points.

Low fidelity Wireframes

Through a number of iterations and user-centred designs in mind, I made sketches for my wireframes and identified features that would help alleviate user pain points.

I made multiple sketches for every wireframe that would be used in our digital application and extracted key features from every sketch and assembled together to form a page that could solve my user’s pain points.

Low fidelity Prototype

Once I finished the wireframe I went ahead and designed the low fidelity Prototype.

Usability testing

I conducted 2 Usability studies on the low fidelity prototype as well as a high-fidelity prototype. From the findings, I carried out iterations and fine-tuned my design

First Testing Result

I conducted the test on the solution on 5 participants, 2 females and 2 males with a hearing impaired candidate. I had to carry out the testing to understand their perspective as well as issues for further iterations.

1. Most users prefer knowing the proximity of the theatre before booking a ticket.

2.) Most users would like to have more information about the movies such as time, cast and the duration of the movie before booking

3.) Most users would like to be able to create a watchlist whenever they are free on the app to see such movies later.

Hi Fidelity Mockups

After series of iterations and user centered considerations, I came up with a mockup for my solution.

Hi Fidelity Prototype

Once the hi-fidelity mockup was completed I went ahead and created a Hi-fidelity prototype for my solution. which went through a series of testings and iterations for a user-centred solution.

Second Usability Testing

After creating a Hi-fidelity prototype, I went ahead and carried out a second usability testing on the product.

I conducted the test on the solution on 5 participants, 2 females and 2 males with a hearing impaired candidate. I had to carry out the testing to understand their perspective as well as issues for further iterations.

Findings

1:) A user suggested that the tag “Add to cart” should be changed to “Add to watchlist”.  That there is no need to have cart and watchlist on the same page because they are both serving the same purpose

2:) I had to enlarge the payment details for easy accessibility. Users clearly stated that the radio buttons were too small to be activated. It would be difficult to activate the button without tapping on another due to its tiny size.

Accessibility considerations

1.

In order to increase accessibility, I had to introduce voice assistance as well as reading assistance in the app. This will help read out text on the screen

2.

I also had to include reminders and alarms to help people who have issues with remembrance. I had to design with this category of people in mind.

3.

I had to also include screen magnification technology in the app to help people with poor eyesight with text magnification technology.

Key learning

I learnt the importance of research and integration as well as the impact of a user-centred design process in coming up with a digital solution.

Impact

This design will help parents and busy professionals make out time for more recreation and interaction with loved ones by creating an avenue for them to connect with families easier.

According to a user “ I believe that with this app I can create a schedule that will help me have some time out at the movies with my family and loved ones.

Next steps

  1. I would like to integrate a smartwatch notification for quick prompts and notifications.

  2. A GPS system will be integrated into the app, this will lead users to their selected theatre.

  3. I would like to integrate a more robust welcome page that will provide an Ai system that will help users keep track of the type of movie genre of their choice when released.
